My Zombie

Chance declared this the best Halloween ever.  Kudos to Paul for the make-up job.

Perspective

The last two weeks my mind has been full of unpleasantness. I am struggling with putting things in perspective -- what's important -- what I can let go.

There have been financial concerns.  Our tenant is moving out December 1st and although we have shown the apartment numerous times and have come close to renting it twice, as of yet we do not have signed lease.

There are concerns regarding Alix's process of learning.  She is struggling academically.  After many conferences with her teacher we have decided to have her assessed.

But the event that has me struggling the most is the tragic unnecessary death of my cousin, Nick.  To be returning from a trip to the grocery store and be struck head-on by a drunk driver is unimaginable.  The feeling of loss is unbearable for Nick's family and friends.

I try to put into perspective my woes as I sit at my dinner table with Paul, Chance and Alix talking about our day and I realize this simple act of eating a meal together will no longer happen for Nick's parents and sister.  At that moment my chest tightens and my eyes well with tears.  This moment is important - the four of us together.

Feed Them and They Will Come

Feed Them and They Will Come

Feed Them and They Will Come

Feed Them and They Will Come

:: The feeders belonged to my Grandfather.  Since putting them in our backyard the finches are  here constantly.  I do not grow tired of watching their comings and goings. How they swoop down from the trees and balance waiting for their turn on a perch. My mom thinks my Grandfather has sent these feathered diners.  I like to think so too.

The Start of a New Day

::  My morning started with this sight in the kitchen.  The boy reading the paper while enjoying one of the last Muffins That Taste Like Donuts.  When I grabbed my camera he asked, "You're not going to put this on the blog are you?"  I may have told a little fib.

A Morning Sight
