We decided to enlarge the garden this year by adding four more 4' x 9' raised beds. We put two more in the front of the house and two between the straggley bush fence and the street. We will continue to use the 4' x 40' raised bed along the house as well.
We had four cubic yards of compost delivered from Lewis Farm. It was dark, rich and wriggling with worms.
After many wheelbarrow trips the beds were ready for their covering of chicken wire. The chicken wire cuts down on the neighborhood cats ability to use the beds as litter boxes.
The front-of-the-house beds receive all-day sun.
These beds receive dappled (my new favorite word) sunlight.
We also paid Found Well Farm a visit where we purchased some seedlings to get a jumpstart on the season: 4 Brandywine tomatoes, 1 Golden Jubilee, 1 Sungold, 1 Gold Medal; 2 basil; 1 cilantro, and 1 zucchini.
Now to plan what's going where. We are still about a month away from our last frost date.
This sounds great!
