Owen Farm

We've been buying locally grown eggs from The Concord Cooperative Market for years. But just recently we decided to purchase the eggs directly from the farm -- Owen Farm. The farm has been run by Derek and Ruth Owen for the past 40+ years. They encourage visits and volunteering. Alix will be attending their week long Farm Camp this summer.

Once a week we visit these ladies who happily let Alix and Chance collect the most delicious eggs.

The roosters are usually not too happy to see Chance. They have a way of letting him know it's time to move on.

A&C move on to the pasture where the lambs, sheep, cows and calves are a bit more neighborly.

The visit often ends with a ride on the rope swing with the fragrant smell of lilacs in the air.

I love that Alix and Chance have the opportunity to see a working farm in action and that they get to be part of that action. I love they have the opportunity to see where some of their food comes
from -- where their food is leading a happy life. As a family we often talk about our food choices and how we want the meat we eat to have lead a happy life.

  1. What a wonderful opportunity Alix and Chance are having! Not everyone has been on a farm (including me).
