Day Three

  • Awake at 6:30 to a heavy fog.
  • Paul, Chance and I take canoe out fishing. Paul and Chance each catch small-mouth bass. I have no luck.
  • Alix meets us later in kayak. I am so proud of her confidence to take out the kayak and come find us.

  • Fog burns off to reveal blue sky.
  • Chance and I sit on Big Rock and do more Mad Libs.
  • Alix paddles around.
  • Chance and I discover a frog living in the rocks around the fire pit.
  • Chance and I head out fishing in canoe for more fishing. Paul follows us later in kayak.
  • Shortly after Chance want to go back to shore. I drop if off and go back out.
  • Alix hops on the back of Paul's kayak for a ride.
  • I catch a whopping 22" pickerel. Very thrilling but there is no way I am going to reach my hands in his mouth to take out the hook. Paul comes to my rescue and releases the scary thing.

  • After lunch A&C have solo time in their tents while Paul and I take the kayaks to the entrance to the cove which is about a mile away. A&C are sound asleep when we get back.
  • We wake them up to cycle them through sponge baths in the lake.
  • I break out the beads and we all make jewelry and bookmarks.
  • After dinner we paddle out beyond the entrance to Sunday Cove and around the corner until sun starts to set.
  • Paddle back as nearly full moon rises. Water is so calm.
  • Paul starts roaring fire but A&C go to bed early again. Paul and I stay up listening to NPR.
