Day Two

  • I awake at 6:00 am to a blue sky. Chance is awake also. We decide to take the canoe out fishing. Fish are biting left and right. We catch six and release all but two.
  • Egg and cheese bagels with sausage for breakfast. Second item we forgot to pack is discovered - honey mustard. It's going to be a long week of egg and cheese bagels without honey mustard.
  • While eating breakfast out on big rock, Chance slips into the lake fully clothed (pants and fleece). Alix falls in also trying to help him out. Clothes are hung on the line hoping they will be dry by tonight. I did not pack extras. Paul wanted me to pack light this year, unlike past years.
  • Wind picks up in late morning. Too windy to paddle far. We paddle across to the mainland to find a trail head.
  • Follow the trail through the woods. Deer flies are fierce. Paul and I are glad to have our hats. A&C end up pulling their shirts up over their heads.
  • We follow the trail until we come to the Rapid River. It's obvious why it's called the Rapid River. A snack is enjoyed on the rocks.

  • Once back to island we walk along the shore around the entire island and swim a bit too.
  • More fishing in afternoon with more success.
  • Paul takes his kayak out alone while I play hide-and-seek with A&C.
  • Dinner is corn-on-the cob grilled over the fire and fish. Delicious!
  • Sparklers and glow sticks around the fire.
  • A&C are wiped out and go to bed early. Paul and I enjoy the quiet as we sit by the fire.
  • Temperature is perfect for sleeping.
