Weekend Recap

Friday

  • Friday afternoon we said good-bye to Paul.  He drove to Burlington, VT to see The Machine play at Higher Ground.
  • I dropped Alix off a friend's 13th Bday party.  She ate pizza and danced the night away until I picked her up at 10:00.
  • Chance and I grabbed sandwiches and watched The Clash of the Titans.  Well I did, he fell asleep right before Medusa lost her head.

Saturday

  • Saturday morning I left Alix sleeping and Chance working on a Concrete Poem to take a walk with Neko.  We made it just to the other side of the park when my phone rang.  It was Paul wondering where we were so he could meet us.  He was already home!  We met in the park and found some of Neko's friends there playing.  We let him run around for quite awhile.  I love to watch him run.
  • Gave Neko a bath.
  • Saturday afternoon Paul and I dropped Chance and a friend at the skate park while we ran a few errands.  After picking them up we took them to lunch at The Works.
  • Saturday night Paul made his always delicious dumplings and steamed fish for dinner.  Then we watched the last Harry Potter.

Sunday
  • I called an Unplugged Sunday for today.  It had been several weeks since we had a screen free Sunday.
  • Paul made waffles for breakfast
  • After a lunch of last night's leftovers we drove to Hillsborough to hike in Fox Forest.  We hadn't been here since last winter.  I was surprised we didn't run into anyone else.  My goofy kids had a blast jumping over a little stream.  Back and forth they went trying to see who could jump the highest and the furthest.  The whole while shouting "Watch this!  Watch me!"  We also found a family cemetery from the 1800's and a old foundation.
  • We wrapped the weekend with homemade pizza and a second showing of Class of Titans for Paul, Alix and Chance.

On the trail with the grandparents

This Unplugged Sunday my parents tagged along with us.  This was the first time we had been back to the Wapack trail since Paul's injury.  He was so happy to be back.  And this time he controlled the camera.

    Unplugged Sunday

    113:365

Oh, Wapack Trail we came back.  But this time Alix, Chance, and I hiked from Temple Mountain through to Sharon.  Paul and Neko hike the first half with us.  At Holt's Peak, we split up.  Paul and Neko turned around to walk back to the car and drive to Sharon to meet us.  Chance, Alix and I continued on.

Alix is a fast hiker and several times I had to call out to her to keep us in sight.  I was not comfortable having her too far ahead, alone.  It was strange hiking without Paul, and also empowering.  (goofy I know.)  We took our time and stopped at a few of the lookout points.

When we met Paul in Sharon he told me how unsettling it was for Neko to have us split up.  Several time Neko stopped and jumped up on Paul with his paws on Paul's shoulders to stop him.  And other times he just lay in the trail looking the way we went and would not continue on.  The herder in him likes to keep his pack together.

    Not ready yet

    107:365 Unplugged Sunday

    107:365 Unplugged Sunday

    Unplugged Sunday

Our Unplugged Sunday brought us back to the Wapack Trail.  This time we parked at Temple Mountain and walked south to Holt Peak.  The round trip was about four miles.  Paul, Alix and Neko set a fast pace while Chance and I slowly brought up the rear deep in conversation.  We all were rewarded with ice-cream in Peterborough.

    Unplugged Sunday - Pulpit Rock

Our "Unplugged Sunday" took us to Pulpit Rock in Bedford.  The last time Paul, Neko, and I were here was in February for my birthday and everything was covered in snow and frozen.     Alix and Chance enjoyed exploring around the water and the falls.
