In the Kitchen

Our days often seem as though they revolve around food. I enjoy preparing good wholesome home-cooked foods for my family. On weekdays Paul, Chance and I eat breakfast together every morning (Alix is usually still sleeping) and every evening we have dinner together. Some days I feel as though I am in the kitchen all day. Today was one of those days.

Baking sandwich bread in the morning using this King Arthur Flour recipe for my bread machine with a few modifications. I use two cups white bread flour and one cup wheat bread flour and I only use 2 tablespoons sugar.

Mid-morning I pulled out my grandmother's Banana Bread recipe and mixed up a loaf of this much loved treat.

Back in the kitchen in the late afternoon to make Ina Garten's Potato Salad from her Barefoot Contessa at Home cookbook. I paired this with Cooking Light's Grilled Portobello Burgers. These burgers are a favorite at our house.
At the end of the day when I look at all the dirty dishes or when the kids devour dinner in 8 minutes I sigh and think is this worth it. But then Paul heads out the kitchen turning on NPR or cranks up Pink Floyd and starts filling the sink with warm sudsy water and the kids give me a grin and say "Thanks Mom. It was delicious.", and our bellies are full of food that was deliberately chosen for it's healthy goodness. Then I know it was worth it and it probably always will be.
