We have lived in our house six-years and up until last November Mr. Bunker, a wonderful elderly man, was our neighbor - the perfect neighbor. Eight of our windows overlooked his yard and not one of them had curtains. I never felt the need to put any up as Mr. Bunker always kept his shades drawn.
We took care of his yard as he was unable to do it himself. Because most of our windows overlooked his yard I planted daylilies and ferns along his house so I would have something pleasing to look at.
In November Mr. Bunker moved to an assisted living facility and his house was put on the market. The house sold last month and we have new neighbors - a family with four young children. The children liked to look out their windows into our windows and yell "hello". In addition most of the daylilies and ferns I had planted were pulled up and replaced with more dirt. Instantly the view changed. Within days I knew we needed privacy and the views were no longer pleasing.
I purchased new sheers from Goodwill for our middle room. I picked up cute curtains at a yard sale for Alix's room. For the kitchen and our glassed-in porch I bought white flour sacks and turned them into cafe' curtains.
For Chance's room, I found in my fabric stash some white sheer fabric with blue circles. I was able to make some simple drapes.
We can now feel like we have a little more privacy while we adjust to our new neighbors.
