25.May

25.May

It has been raining for days and the daytime temps have only been in the 40's.  Some of the surrounding towns have had snow.  I read in the news that Stowe, VT received 13 inches.

Paul's been on vacation since Thursday and with all this rain we've had to be couch potatoes.  We've re-watched Star Wars Episodes I, II, II, IV.  We also have been watching the TV series, How I Met Your Mother (love it).

Lucy came for dinner and Alix ended up going home with her for a sleepover.  (John and Joel are still out of town.)

27.February

27.February

Today's forecast called for 6-10" of snow.  Instead it poured all day.  I was OK with no new snow.

Alix and I picked up Mari in the afternoon for a sleep-over at our house.  I dropped Chance, Alix and Mari at the library for teen movie night.  The Hunger Games was playing.

Book club tonight.  We discussed Lady Chatterley's Lover.  Well, I didn't have much to contribute since I only read eight pages.  (Perhaps I should have watched fewer episodes of West Wing the last couple of days.)  Of course we talked about so many more things than just the book.  I love book club nights - such a great group of women.

7.June

7.June

Because five days of rain was not enough Mother Nature had to add another.  Although today did have longer periods of sunshine than we have seen all week.

Very quiet day here:
  •  I did come across this adorable and clever 2-second apron by Family Chic which uses elastic sheet straps.
  • I swung by the library to return the movie, Ides of March, and to pick up the book Liar's Club by Mary Karr after hearing a recent interview on NPR about her album collaboration with with Rodney Crowell.
  • I watched Paul make one of our family favorites for dinner.

5.June

5.June

It's been raining since Saturday with rain and below average temps in the forecast for the entire week.  Neko and I have been trying to get out for short walks in between the showers -- no friends at the park to run with.  The day-lilies and ferns are heavy with raindrops.  The clothesline stands empty.  Chance's bike and helmet lay abandoned on the grass.  Jeans have replaced shorts and capris.  The down comforter has been piled back onto the bed.  Meatloaf and Crash-Hot potatoes are on the menu.

I was hoping a pedicure might encourage the rain to stop falling.

Rainy Afternoon

Alix and I escaped to the library to spend some time on this rainy afternoon.  We grabbed a stack of magazines and plunked down in a couple comfy chairs.

Then just as it began to really pour we were off to join all the umbrella toting parents to pick up Chance at school.

Enough is Enough

To date we have had 18 days with rain for the month of June. It's been wet and cool. Not exactly the summer weather we are use to or want. Our rain barrels have been full for weeks; the forest floor is soggy; the leaves are heavy with wet. The long range forecast is calling for continued rain. How does that song go, "Rain, rain go away. Come again....."

Edited Note: Within minutes of posting this entry the sky opened up and let loose this:

(I watched this garbage can float down the street.)

And More Rain

I rescued these Cosmos (grown from seeds from Chance's giant Cosmo from last year) from another deluge.

More Rain

We had a sun shower late this afternoon - then this evening a heavy rain with thunder and lightning. Paul, Chance, Jonah and I watched the lightning storm from Chance's room. After the lightning storm Chance read Harry Potter to us.
