3.June

3.June

  • More rain in the morning and then sunshine.  Seasonal temps have returned.
  • A full week of work for Paul.
  • 11 1/2  more school days.
  • Picked Alix up from school early for her appointment with the neurologist.  The diagnosis is familiar hand tremors.  So nothing to be concerned with.  However in going over her health history, he was concerned with her sleeping and snoring habits.  She's been scheduled for a sleep study at the end of June.

25.May

25.May

It has been raining for days and the daytime temps have only been in the 40's.  Some of the surrounding towns have had snow.  I read in the news that Stowe, VT received 13 inches.

Paul's been on vacation since Thursday and with all this rain we've had to be couch potatoes.  We've re-watched Star Wars Episodes I, II, II, IV.  We also have been watching the TV series, How I Met Your Mother (love it).

Lucy came for dinner and Alix ended up going home with her for a sleepover.  (John and Joel are still out of town.)

8.May

8.May

  • Much needed rain was in the forecast for today.  But we only had sprinkles.  We've had less than 2" in the last 30 days.  The rain barrels are ready.
  • Made the worst pancakes ever using this sour cream pancake recipe.
  • I slipped away for an hour this evening to have a glass of wine with Lucy while A and C finished their homework.  Neighborhood friends are so convenient.

      7.May

      7.May

      • Another gorgeous day.
      • Lunch with Paul at the British Beer Company before his flight to Philly. He'll be home Thursday.
      • Neko is enjoying the green grass to roll around on during our walks.
      • I really need to stop tuning into the the show that I have became addicted to watching --  my neighbor's lives.  The current episodes involving the two recently acquired Airedale Terriers who are outside less than 10 minutes a day are too sad and frustrating watch.

      6.May

Spring has really sprung the last ten days or so.  Temps have been in the 70's with full sunshiny-blue-sky days.  With the warmer weather comes the swap out of warmer weather clothes and shoes.  New Keen's have been purchased.  On a recent trip to the mall, with Alix and her friend, I came home with an arm load of new T's.  Windows have stayed open overnight.  It's all good.

Although it was a wet lilac season, the color and fragrance was as sweet as always.

I was hoping a pedicure might encourage the rain to stop falling.

      First ice-cream of the season

      Tuesday, April 20, 2010

The sunshine this afternoon was an invitation to grab my garden gloves and wheelbarrow and tackle the raised bed along the side of the house.  The compost pile has now grown by two full wheelbarrows and this bed is ready for planting once the fear of frost has past.

      A Thursday

      • Chance is still home.  Poor guy is starting to go a little stir crazy.
      • Purchased more birdseed today for the gold and purple finches and the morning doves.  Sadly it will also feed the pain in the ass squirrels.  If I only I had a better aim with the slingshot.
      • Chance's friend, Kevin, came over after school.  They played Lego Indiana Jones on the Wii.  It so funny to listen to their commentary on the game.
      • I finished reading Game Chance:  Obama and the Clinton's, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime.   Very interesting behind the scenes look at the campaign.  What struck me was amount of pressure everyone was under, not just the candidates but their staff as well.  It also amused me that whenever there was a bad news to report  there was always a scramble of who on the staff would be the bearer of the news or sometimes it was decided the bad news could wait.
      • I'll close with some colors from the yard.

      Easter Highlights

We made the most of the higher than normal temperatures this Easter by spending the day outside.

      • Shorts and skirts were worn
      • Games of tag and badminton were played
      • Painted toes were exposed
      • Eggs filled with coins were hunted
      • Quiche made with spinach from the garden was eaten
      • A walk along the river was taken before the drive back home

      Rainy Afternoon

Alix and I escaped to the library to spend some time on this rainy afternoon.  We grabbed a stack of magazines and plunked down in a couple comfy chairs.

Then just as it began to really pour we were off to join all the umbrella toting parents to pick up Chance at school.

      Getting Ready

This past week's warmer weather gave New Hampshire a taste of spring.  Temps were in the high 60's.  Alix and Chance took every opportunity to be outside.  There was barrel walking and rollerblading.  Bike washing and tire pumping.  Walking and jump roping.

The spinach and lettuce we planted in the fall were happy to spend the days uncovered.
